A rare couture headpiece by acclaimed Australian milliner Lauren J Ritchie, hand made to order in her celebrated "Tesselation in Flight" design and originally commissioned to pair with a special-occasion gown.
The design is inspired by the tessellating birds of Dutch artist M.C. Escher. At first glance a clean, sculptural pitch-shape saucer, it reveals a deeply artful approach on closer view: a flock of gold birds soaring together in flight, hand-cut from gold lamé and sandwiched between layers of fine black tulle to create a striking shadow effect. The birds represent the connection between headwear and art.
A true statement and collector's piece, bespoke and made by the designer herself. Extraordinary for Spring Carnival, Fashions on the Field, black-and-gold events or the serious millinery collector.
Secured with combs and hat elastic for a comfortable, confident hold.
